How to Enrol Your Child/Children


Morningside School Enrolment Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below (map available at the school office) shall be entitled to enrol at Morningside School.

Travelling North along State Highway 1, the zone begins at the intersection with South End Avenue, and continues North (all properties on the right hand-side in zone) until it reaches Central Avenue.

It then travels East along Central Avenue (both sides of Central Avenue and any no exit roads coming off it are included in the zone), Walton Street and Quayside (only properties on the Southern side of the roads included in zone) until it reaches Hātea River. 

The zone travels South down Hātea River (all properties on the Western side in zone), turns West and travels up Limeburner's Creek, and then overland to link in with the Eastern end of South End Avenue (all properties to the North included).

It continues along South End Avenue (all properties on the Northern side included) until it reaches SH1.

Proof of residence in the home zone will be required.

In Zone Enrolments

For an in-zone enrolment, please visit the school office and fill out an enrolment form.

You will need to bring with you:

  • Proof of your residential address (a rental/tenancy agreement, rates demand, utilities bill)*
  • Your child's birth certificate or passport, which we will photocopy*
  • Immunisation Records*
  • B4SC Records (Before School Checks)
  • Vision and hearing or speech records
  • Medication information including allergy records and action plans

*No child will be placed into a class until these documents have been received.

Out of Zone Enrolments

The Morningside School Board of Trustees has determined that there will be four enrolment periods for out of zone students in 2026 coinciding with each school term.

Out-of-Zone Enrolment Spaces Available – 2026

Morningside School currently has a limited number of out-of-zone places available in selected year levels for 2026:

There are currently no out of zone places.

Applications close: 

Application closing date October 14, 2026

All applications will be processed in accordance with the school’s Enrolment Scheme and Ministry of Education priority guidelines.

If the number of applications exceeds the available places, a ballot will be held.

Successful applicants will be notified shortly after the ballot and may begin attending Morningside School as soon as enrolment is confirmed.

Important Information About Start Dates

The places currently advertised are for students who are able to begin in Term 1, 2027 - following the October 14, 2026 for deadline and any required ballot.

At this stage, places are not being allocated for students intending to start later in 2027.

Families seeking enrolment for a future start date should apply during the relevant enrolment period:

October 14, 2026 – for Term 1, 2027
Ballot date (Wednesday, 21 October 2026)

Each enrolment period will have its own ballot if applications exceed available places.

We welcome enquiries from whānau who are interested in joining the Morningside School community.

Applications for enrolments will be processed in the following order of priority:

  1. This priority is not applicable at Morningside School, because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary for Education.
  2. Siblings of current students.
  3. Siblings of former students.
  4. Children of former students.
  5. Children of Board employees.
  6. All other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group must be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newsletter circulating in the area served by the school.

Applicants seeking second or third priority status will be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
