School Organisation

At Morningside School, classes are organised into seven teaching teams: Team Kea, Team Tūī, Team Kākāriki, Team Pūkeko, Team Kererū, Team Kiwi, and Team Kōtare. Each team is supported by one or two classroom teachers, with many teams also supported by Learning Assistants.

We also host two satellite classes from Blomfield Special School. While these classes operate independently and are not under the governance umbrella of Morningside School, we actively promote inclusion by involving students in selected school activities and ensuring they feel a valued part of our school community.

Team Kea is our Foundation class, supporting the transition from Early Childhood Education into school. The programme draws on both Te Whāriki and Te Mātaiaho – The Refreshed New Zealand Curriculum, with a strong focus on settling children into school life and building confidence for future learning.

We believe effective learning happens when teachers collaborate while still allowing flexibility for single-cell teaching where appropriate. This approach supports strong relationships, a sense of belonging, and positive learning outcomes. Our classrooms feature glass doors, allowing spaces to adapt to a range of teaching and learning needs.

We also offer a specialist programme where all students visit The Hive at different times. The Hive brings together Garden-to-Table experiences, a specialist STEAM programme, and our library space, providing rich, hands-on learning opportunities that enhance and extend classroom learning.

During the last few years we have seen the following benefits to our children from this organisation:

  • It allows students to connect with two or more adults every day.
  • It allows more opportunities for group and one-to-one learning and modelling during lessons.
  • It models working together, positive behaviour and positive peer-to-peer interactions.
  • Our students see teachers working together, helping them to understand the power of respect.
  • It builds self-esteem.
  • It promotes a positive attitude so students are more likely to experience success.
  • It celebrates diversity; students learning to work with people who might be different to them.

Timetable

Our daily timetable has been designed to maximise learning time and to provide valuable social break times where we offer a variety of activities for the students to participate in if they choose.

Students should not be on school grounds before 8:30am as we cannot provide adequate supervision before this time. Should you need care for your child before or after our school hours please contact Morningside Kids Care: Lynley - 021 0232 0343
