Kia ora te whanau, nau mai! We are over the moon with the fantastic bunch of year 2, 3, and 4 tamariki we have in our team this year! Our students will work alongside 3 teachers this year – Miss Susan Fraser, Mrs Sharyn Smith, and Miss Anna Keogh. We are so very lucky to have 2 outstanding teacher aides – Stacey Reynolds and Kerry Bowmar.
We have a great big open classroom where we work collaboratively, and together we create a community of learners. We love to share what we are doing and have an ‘open door policy’ so feel free to pop in! We would love to see you.
This term our focus for inquiry is Wild Things. Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on wild animals. The students in Team Pukeko will be learning about the habitats of wild animals, how wild animals have adapted to the different habitats and environments they live in and what special features wild animals have. Our inquiry will be integrated into our art, maori, and writing programmes so make sure you come and check out some of the “Wild Things” work that will be on display in our team classroom during the term. Later in the term we will also be learning about the Auckland Zoo in preparation for our whole school trip at the end of the term. Everyone is every excited about this upcoming trip and the amazing opportunity to see lots of “Wild Things” for REAL!!
During Term 4 we have exciting Discovery sessions underway! We begin each lesson with a “workshop” where there is a specific focus for the lesson. We have recently introduced SeeSaw to the students as a way of them showcasing their amazing Discovery work so make sure if you have a child in Team Pukeko that you have received SeeSaw login instructions so that you can view students work online. Team Pukeko children have individual Discovery goals they are working hard to achieve and during Discovery time they work very hard to hit the bullseye each time for their planning, actions and reflections. The students continue to come up with amazing and creative ideas and thoroughly enjoy our sharing sessions at the end of each lesson, where they talk to the class about what they have been working on, and are then presented with some questions from peers as well as positive feedback (I like the way you…) and constructive feedforward (next time you could…). We LOVE Discovery in Team Pukeko and are so glad we have the opportunity to do it 3 times a week!
It is going to be an amazing year in Team Pukeko! E hine, e tama, nga whetu, mo apopo. Ko ia kāhore nei i rapu, tē kitea – ‘Girls, boys, stars of tomorrow! He who does not seek will not find.’
Don’t miss a thing! Check out our Team Pukeko Blog spot! We keep this regularly updated with photos and blurbs about things we are doing in our classroom.
