A Caring School

Special Features
Morningside School has a warm friendly atmosphere, which you can feel on entering the school. We focus on caring for others, and this supportive culture has been nurtured and maintained by all those involved in our school: students, staff, parents, PTA and Board of Trustees. Together we have actively developed a family atmosphere, which recognises human values and the importance of education, with a special focus on Literacy and Numeracy.

A special feature of Morningside School is the inclusion of two Satellite Classes from Blomfield Special School. The interaction between our pupils and the Satellite Class children provides positive benefits for all students, and promotes an understanding of difference.

We have a stable and highly skilled staff who are committed to ensuring all children receive the best deal possible at school every day.

Happy Children

Our students are provided with a safe, secure environment that enhances their opportunities for learning, motivates and challenges them, and provides and rewards success.

Understanding, respect and sensitivity are features of Morningside School that are positively promoted.

All children come into our school with smiles on their faces because they are happy to be here; they feel safe and valued, and are excited about the learning opportunities being offered to them each day.

A Supportive School

Through a conscious effort and continual development, our staff and Board of Trustees have created a school culture where all children, regardless of ethnicity or background, feel comfortable and valued. This has had a positive effect on the interaction of all families with our school.

Consultation with our Maori community clearly affirmed our approach with our Maori parents requesting we not change anything. Parents were also pleased with the academic progress of their children.

Academic Achievement

Each year we use nationally standardised tests to monitor progress of our students. 2007 results are extremely positive, and reflect the high expectations set, and the quality of teaching programmes for all students here at Morningside School.

Reading results show that 75% of students across the school are reading at or above their age level, with no difference between the achievement levels of boys and girls.

There are similar results in Mathematics, with 70% of students across the school achieving at or above their age level. Again, there is no difference between the achievement of boys and girls.

Our Parent Teacher Conferences, held twice a year result in an average of 80% of children receiving conferences.

Community Partnerships

We have established a sharing of community facilities where Whangarei F. C. Soccer Club and the Whangarei Pipe Band use our grounds and buildings, and in return, we are able to make use of their facilities as needed.

Morningside School has established a very efficient and effective Information and Communication Technology system where all classes and administration offices are networked with appropriate hardware, software and internet and email access.
